In the women’s singles opening round, Olympic bronze-medallist Saina, seeded third, beat Thailand’s Sapsiree Taerattanachai 17-21, 21-9 21-19, while 17-year-old Sindhu avenged her defeat to Indonesia’s Lindaweni Fanetri, against whom she lost in the final of the Syed Modi Grand Prix Gold in Lucknow less than a month ago, winning 22-20, 21-16 here.
