The Koregaon Park police said they booked car driver Pramod Pandit Shinde (30) of Navratra Society in Vadgaon but were yet to arrest him.u00a0Three years after the government approved the setting up of the police station in Koregaon Park, it finally started functioning from makeshift premises yesterday. The police station was formed after dividing the jurisdiction of Bund Garden police station.

Police Commissioner Meeran Borwankar inaugurated the police station in the presence of other senior police officials and Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Pathak. About 400 residents of the area were also present for the function. In her inaugural speech Borwankar said: "We want this police station to be a model for citizen-friendly police station."

Pathak said: "The Koregaon Park police station is an important police station as there are prominent establishments in the area. PMC will extend all possible help and expertise for better functioning of the police station and to make it user-friendly."

The police station could not be opened earlier because of the space crunch in the posh Koregaon Park area. On November 12, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II) Raghunath Khaire took possession of the 10-guntha plot where the police station is located. The plot is at Survey Number 112/5 on a road joining Lane Number u00a04 and 5 in Koregaon Park. At present, Mangaldas police chowky and Koregaon Park police chowky are under the new police station. It covers the Residency Club, Boat Club Road, Dhole-Patil Road, Mangaldas Road, Koregaon Park and Bund Garden Road areas.
