With this arrest, the number of suspects in police custody rises to nine.

As many as 16 criminal cases are pending against Pathak

Pathak, the mastermind behind the macabre crime, evaded capture by frequently changing his location, from Nasik to Shirdi, Alibaug and Panvel.

Acting on a tip-off, Unit 11 of Crime Branch managed to ensnare Pathak while he was passing through Varanasi station. The police has revealed that he never stayed in a location for more than a day.

After his arrest, the police escorted Pathak back to Mumbai yesterday.

He has 16 criminal cases pending against him, and the police are hard at work collecting more evidence, to ensure that he receives the harshest sentence in court.

Cops are also investigating the roles of the other arrested accused, so as to have clinching evidence against them.u00a0

We are now collecting more evidence, and will appeal to the court to mete out the harshest punishment deserved by a hardened criminal like him, who is capable of scheming such a gruesome murder in cold blood," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy.

The savaged bodies of victims Ganesh Karanje (24), Dinesh Ahire (25), Chetan Dhule (24), and Bharat Kundle (27) were found on a hillock in Kurar village, Malad, on June 6.
