The city that never fails in the style stakes is gearing itself to host yet another season of fashion and design, from today. Lakme Fashion Week (LFW), a fashion trade event, currently in its 15th year, will see 86 designers showcasing their sartorial experiments.

While designers Amit Aggarwal and Masaba Gupta will open the fashion event with their individual lines, the five-day extravaganza will culminate with the grand finale show to be presented by couturier Manish Malhotra.

Says Gupta, "This will be, by far, my most sober collection till date, in terms of the treatment and the palette. Maxi saris will be the highlight of the line."

The fashion week will be on till August 24.

At: Palladium Hotel, Lower Parel.

Big names in attendance
Some established and prominent names who will showcase their collections include Manish Malhotra, Anju Modi, Varun Bahl, Vikram Phadnis, Shantanu & Nikhil, Arjun Khanna, Anita Dongre, Rocky S, Krishna Mehta and Priyadarshini Rao, among others.

Amit Aggarwal, who will be opening the show along with Masaba Gupta, tells us, "My collection is about the future of a tribe, what would their textile be, the technique and the jewellery. I will be using my signature futuristic materials, but for this season, I have played with a lot of coloured metals with sharp black accents."  For the structure, he will revisit conventional structures such as a lehenga or a jacket that will be toned down, and much closer to the body. "The colour palette ranges from the setting sun to the night sky,"  he shares.

International flavour
While Indian designers will take centre stage at the fashion week, international designers are expected to make their presence felt as well. Australian fashion design duo Easton Pearson will make their foray into the Indian market through a show at LFW. This is the first time that designs by Pamela Easton and Lydia Pearson will be available in the country.
