Fashion and more is always in store for you at fashion weeks. One learns so much more besides the fashion flashing across the runway. Like Kelly Dorji is an artist.

Where's the party tonight? The clothes had a rock star feel about them

I had a look and liked what I saw. Seems like the man has been seriously painting in his hometown of Bhutan. Actually, he started as a photographer and now translates some of the stuff that he shoots into painting. Will there be a Kelly Dorji art exhibition soon? Wait and watch, like the clich ufffd goes.

u00a0Meanwhile, watching the action on the catwalk were the likes of Sridevi, Siddharth Kannan in
an olive green jacket, accompanied by his numerologist friend Bhavvikk Sanghvi (or however he spells his name now), Vidya Malavade, fitness trainer Leena Mogre and glamour photographer Vikram Bawa. From Babita Malkani's show, one learnt that even Babita can dance.

Sidharth Tytler seems to be a very popular designer, at least with the Bollywood babes. One saw Mugdha Godse, Urmila Matondkar and Minissha Lamba all in the front row (of course).

Mugdha was spotted at the week for the second day in a row, but she said she may not be back for the rest of the five-day fest, since she is off for a shoot.

Launching their new brand, S&N Drape, designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil, presented a collection inspired by the divas who rule the world with their style. What followed were girls with loud hairstyles, a spring in their step and in shimmery dresses with some leather and metallic embellishments. If that is their idea of a diva, then, it is a bit of a disappointment.

Nonetheless, the collection had some good skirts, gowns and bolero jackets. The black on black palette gave the entire collection a very edgy, rock star look. The sari went modern, with a slit up the thigh, closely resembling an evening dress.

Drapes and mainstream silhouettes made up most of the collection. Bodysuits and fitting dresses ensure that only the fittest will be able to carry off the clothes, something the designer duo seems to be playing at, as they describe their collection is for the super sexy.

u00a0With a wild collection on the ramp, the after-party started early as the front row guests swayed to foot-tapping music. Siddharth Mallya, Rohit Bal, Jacky Bhagnani and Pooja Gupta were seen.

The designers broke into an impromptu dance on the ramp with the models. One can only hope the celebrations continue after the collection reaches stores too.

We can baul better... than the Indian cricket team
Babita Malkani presented a collection inspired by the Bauls of Bengal at her 3 pm show. With dancing Bauls printed on the hem of dresses and loose cotton clothing the musicians are known for, Malkani's collection bordered on the seen, especially when it came to using cloth with Bengali fonts printed on them.

Anita Dongre
7.30 pm

Anita Dongre's collection was based on, 'love and life' depicting a woman in love. It was collection in cream mals; Dongre used appliques to create some interesting patterns, the overall look being laid back and suited to a hot, summer afternoon. The gowns and lehenga-cholis that followed were similar in style, with intricate embroidery and long, flowy silhouettes. Her collection was designed keeping its commercial viability in mind and did not disappoint on that front. Oh, how very Dongre really.

Eina, Malaga, Pittie
12: 00 pm

Eina Ahluwalia kick started the accessories show with a collection dedicated to fighting domestic violence. Models walked down the ramp with scabbards, knives and Goddess Kali's weapons as accessories. While it made for an interesting neckpiece, hug a person wearing one of her creations at your own risk! Another neckpiece had a strategically placed 'No entry' sign. Point taken. Malini Agarwal of Malaga went Carnivale this year, with feathers, masks and tassels. There were a few lovely necklaces, but nothing really new or different here. Ditto with Suhani Pittie, who tried to go unconventional with painted copper cylinders et al, but failed to hold the audience's interest for long. Her collection did have some pieces that showed promise, but you know you need to do better when the only thing interesting that happens in your show is the music unexpectedly stopping, yes?

Debarun, Tangri, Rimi
1.30 pm

Blame it on the lazy Sunday afternoon, but the 1:30pm show drew quite a few yawns from the audience. Debarun's collection had models flaunt embroidered long jackets, shorts and the usual summer fare.
For some reason, the men couldn't quite carry off the garments. Maybe it was the light pinks and aquas that didn't really suit their chiselled masculine frame. Aditya Kapoor flashed his trademark cute smile, but even that couldn't distract from the poor designs. Rajat Tangri's collection was a tad better, with layers, lace jumpsuits and sequinned and applique bordered-dresses. Prints ran through the collection, whether on plain tops or on the flared hem of a dress.

Siddharth Tytler
5.30 pm

Siddharth Tytler debuted at the fashion week with a solo show as designer Swapnil Shinde backed out last minute, after finishing the fittings for his show. The buzz is that the designer was reluctant to participate in the fashion week in the first place, others insist there is no bad blood between the organisers and the designer. The decision was taken solely as Shinde had some personal problems. Tytler's creations had the models walking down the ramp in heavily sequinned dresses, kaftans and leggings. The collection made rampant use of French jersey chiffons, lame ufffd and satin. Combinations of metallic silver, gold and black sequins coupled with gold embroidered coats made for a visual, which had you thinking of shiny disco balls. It lacked innovation on the sartorial front, though.u00a0Still waiting for the emerging designers to offer something new. Sigh.
