Lankan officials take note of bookie threat
With reports about bookies planning to target the Twenty20 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka later in the year, the Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) secretary Nishantha Ranatunga yesterday said that it would take maximum precaution to ensure that the bookies are not involved in the game.
“We have not heard of anything of that sort. That is not in the agenda and no passing remark has been made till now. But we will take maximum precaution to keep unwanted elements out of the game,” Ranatunga told Times Now. The Twenty20 World Cup will be played in the island nation from September 18 to October 7.
