It was high drama that unfolded over a period of two hours at Pimpri's YCM hospital. A man, who had allegedly murdered his wife by hitting her on the head with a wooden log, tried to flee the hospital premises.

When restrained by the police, he hit his head on the glass windows breaking it and injured himself and also tried to hurt the hospital staffers.

According to Dehu Road police who later took over the investigations, the man did so in a fit of rage as he suspected her of having an illicit affair.

"She started bleeding profusely and fell down. He got scared and realised what he had done. So he put her in a vehicle and brought her to the hospital along with his mother. On getting here when we checked her and declared her dead," said a senior doctor on duty.

As soon as she was declared dead, the mother-in-law disappeared from the hospital and the accused also tried to flee.

He was once again taken into the doctor's casualty room and treated but the next time he was tied down to the hospital bed with a rope. Around 12:00 am, his mother also returned to the hospital.

Dehu Road police, who were investigating the case, added that the accused Ashok had about 39 cases of dacoity, theft and even a few sex-related offences registered against him.
