The 1.6-Litre DDiS 320 Engine Is Now Available Only In The Alpha Trim

Maruti Suzuki Shortens Variant List For S-Cross

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) launched the S-Cross in August 2015 and it was the first car to be retailed from the company's premium range of Nexa dealerships. The company hoped that pricing the S-Cross in the same league as the Renault Duster and the Hyundai Creta would help in luring customers away from its competition, but that didn't happen. In January 2016, MSIL slashed the prices of the S-Cross by up to Rs 2.05 lakh to make the crossover a more attractive prospect.

Now, though, due to the lack of takers for the car, MSIL has shortened the variant list of the S-Cross. If you are after the 1.6-litre DDiS 320 diesel engine, the S-Cross is only available in the top-spec Alpha trim. In other words, the Zeta and Delta variants, which came with the stronger of the two engines available, have now been discontinued. A total of five variants remain on sale, four of which are powered by the 1.3-litre DDiS 200 diesel engine.

The top-spec Alpha variant, which comes with the 1.6-litre diesel engine, gets impressive performance figures – 120PS/320Nm. The 1.3-litre diesel mill, on the other hand, gets the same power output as the Vitara Brezza – 90PS/200Nm. Transmission duties for the stronger engine are handled by a six-speed manual transmission, whereas the engine with a smaller combustion chamber comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. While the DDiS 320 Alpha variant is currently priced at Rs 12.04 lakh, the price list for the other four variants ranges from Rs 8.07-10.64 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
