New York: Indian tennis aces Leander Paes suffered a shock second round US Open loss in the men’s doubles category on Friday.
Paes and his Spanish partner Fernando Verdasco went down fighting against Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey 5-7, 6-4, 3-6.
However, India’s tennis queen Sania Mirza progressed to the second round of the women’s doubles with Swiss Martina Hingis on the hard courts of Flushing Meadows on Thursday. Sania and Martina took out Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria 6-1, 6-2 in 56 minutes.
The top seeds proved to be too strong from Kaitlyn and Sabrina who gave away as many as six breakpoints.
