Mohile Parikh Center offers six new courses to help broaden your intellectual horizons

Amrita Gupta Singh, one of the organisers says, "These courses are an initiative of continuing education. We wanted to make learning initiatives accessible to all and not just the cultured community." Each of the courses offered have an internal link, for example new media art has an element of science and technology to it.

The main purpose of these new courses, which have been introduced by the centre for the first time, says Singh, is to broaden the ways of understanding disciplines. In academics there is very strict specialisation and these courses offer a wider perspective to the subject.

The courses, conceived by Dr Prashant Parikh are in tune with the centre's vision to promote learning, introspection, and a spirit of inquiry. It was also born out of the limitations of the education system. "The syllabus in colleges is outdated and they do not include contemporary research," says Singh. She adds that the information overload was another reason for introducing these courses.

According to her there is an increase in information space and one does not get an objective view of things happening around. If you learn about something, you are at the risk of being bombarded with lots of information on the same. This leaves very little time to critically evaluate what you are learning. The overwhelming pace of knowledge does not allow one to develop critical dialogue.

Each course has been designed by experts in that particular field and is targeted towards broadening learning horizons. It is open to students, who get a discount on producing relevant IDs and also to professionals.

All courses will be held at M C Ghia Hall, 18/20 K Dubash Marg from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.
The first course (Physics) begins on March 3. For further details visit www.mohileparikhcenter.org
