The forgery case against Forensic Science Laboratory expert Malini has created a rift in the Chief Minister's office.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa is said to have given instructions for withdraw of the case against her, but his legal adviser is not obeying him.

Pradeep Kumar, a city-based lawyer, had registered the private complaint in a court against Malini, who was dismissed as the assistant director of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for cheating the government by declaring a false age to secure the job.

But Yeddyurappa has taken personal interest in the case and he wants the complaint to be withdrawn.

Firstly, he is indebted to Malini - she had reportedly helped the BJP when she performed a narco-analysis on Kareem Lala Telagi, the stamp paper scam kingpin.

Secondly, top BJP leaders and the RSS top brass are backing her. "There is immense pressure from the government to withdraw the case," said Tommy Sebastian, a senior lawyer, who is giving consultancy services to the complainant.

"I think they will see to it that it is done."

However, it may not be an easy task, with the complainant showing no signs of yielding to pressure.

"The CM is upset with Diwakar that he is not listening to him," said a highly placed source in the chief minister's office. "I can say it is unprecedented that the legal adviser is defying the CM."

When contacted, Diwakar, said, "In what way I am concerned to this? Pradeep was my colleague when I was practising but not now.

I cannot talk to him this regard and, moreover, I don't know about the case. Please don't ask me anything." The complainant declined to comment.
