The 39-year-old actor, who spotted fuller-than-ever beard and a slicked-back man bun at the event, said the environmental concerns should be put at the forefront of the human agenda, reported Us magazine.

"Climate change is compromising the very livability of our planet. Less than three percent of all philanthropic giving goes toward protecting and preserving our environment.

I urge people to put environmental issues at the forefront of the human agenda," he said.

Earlier in the day, the actor participated in the People's Climate Change march, alongside fellow environmental activists Edward Norton, Mark Ruffalo, Sting and Evangeline Lilly.

DiCaprio was presented the award by World Wildlife Fund CEO Carter Roberts. "Now more than ever nature needs a voice.

Leonardo DiCaprio is that voice," he said. Eva Longoria, Seth Meyers, Randy Jackson and Chelsea Clinton also attended the award ceremony at the Sheraton Times Square, New York.
