Friends-turned-entrepreneurs Eddie Cruzet and Vishal Shetty were always interested in music. But they soon realised that there was no recognition for fellow musicians especially Disc Jockeys (DJs) who were slowly becoming popular in the Indian music circuit.
So in 2010, the duo founded myfavdj(.in) — an online portal that gathers the best DJ's of India, who are voted online, and accordingly, nominated for the awards night. Shetty explains, “We realised there was no organised body that recognized DJs in India. The DJ scene was growing rapidly globally and in India and we thought the time was right to launch Myfavdj(.in) in india.”
Last year’s winner, Arjun Vagale, who has been very popular at every party scene, says, “It’s an initiative started by people who have been into music for years, I found out through the media. It’s an award for excellence, which I think is much needed in this industry.”
The others nominated for this special awards include Anish Sood, Ankytrixx, Ash Roy, B.L.O.T, Dualist Inquiry, Kohra, Lost Stories and Pearl. The festival will be presented by popular VJ Ramona Arena and VJ Nikhil Chinappa along with the likes of Bollywood celebrities like Dino Morea, Arunoday Singh, Shazahn Padamsee and Shraddha Kapoor.
Commenting on the future plans shetty says, “We want to take this initiative to a global level. Also, we want to rename the website to myfavawards(.in) that promotes not only DJ’s but also music enthusiasts. We will also include a new Best Producer and Best Festival category that we have added this year which will only grow. Next year, the awards will bigger, better and louder.”
