Even theatre seems to be going the web way. A new project, eNatya Chaupal launched by theatre group Astitva and Mumbaitheatreguide.com looks at reaching out to theatre lovers across generations with their talks, play readings and conversations that will be streamed on the web live.

Their first ‘chaupal’ (Hindi: village meeting place) will see Jehan Manekshaw of Theatre Professionals engage in a conversation with theatre director and filmmaker Mahesh Dattani. Manekshaw, who has earlier had a public talk with Mahesh Dattani at a previous edition of Kala Ghoda Arts festival tells us, “The talk will explore Mahesh’s journey as a writer and director and how he has provided a voice for a new class of theatre practitioners, especially in English theatre.” The event will discuss what worked and didn’t work for Dattani, and about writing plays that reflect society.

“I am sure these topics will lead to a 1,000 different things that will benefit several theatre practitioners and those who love theatre in general,” he believes.  Enthusiasts can join the conversation through Google+. The event will be screened live on YouTube as well.
