With the launch of their new summer collections, we get designers James Ferreira and Saviojon Fernandes to talk about summer style, trends, sex & all things hot
They are both Fire signs (James is Leo, Saviojon, Aries), and yet fashion designers James Ferreira and Saviojon Fernandes can't help but be an antithesis to one other. James finds it impossible to be an introvert (being a live wire comes easy, he grins. Reclusiveness is "conditioned attitude"). Saviojon's gregarious social side is as rare as snow in Mumbai. Their laidback take on life and occupation, is perhaps what makes them share an interesting chemistry.
The two come together for the first time to showcase Summer Love, a collection of two independent lines of relaxed-elegant garments inspired by Indian drapes in colours that celebrate summer: mango, marigold, sherbet, lime green, even a stray streak of acid green. "It has got a folksy Indian vibe but one with modern appeal," says Goa-based Saviojon about the line he showcased at fashion weeks in New York and Paris September.

Veteran designer James Ferreira has infused disciplined geometry into free-flowing drapes, to highlight folds and pleats on dresses and blouses created in luscious satin and airy linen. After refraining from retailing at fashion boutiques for a year, James is back at Ensemble. What changed his mind? "I had to make ends meet," he laughs. "On a serious note, several designers had begun copying me, and were getting away with it because their creations were out there for everyone to see, not mine. I wanted my clothes to enjoy visibility."
Priced at: Saviojon designs between Rs 7,000 and Rs 20,000, James Ferreira's range between Rs 7,000 and Rs 15,000.
