The alleged offence relates to the Reds’ Europa League second-leg tie at Manchester United and is believed to concern a so-called ‘fat-burning’ substance. PA Sport understands the France international is likely to request his ‘B’ sample be tested. Liverpool issued a brief statement saying: “A formal communication was received from UEFA stating they are investigating a possible anti-doping rule violation by Mamadou Sakho. He will respond to UEFA. He is not subject to any playing suspension but the club has decided while this process is followed he won’t be available for selection for matches."
