Active! gives you six surefire ways to recover after a night spent partying

It's that time of the year when lavish wedding feasts tempt you every few days and there are parties galore. More often than not, you succumb to temptation and end up feeling bloated as the body's natural detoxification process slows down. Though, you cannot help socialising, we offer six ways to rid your bloodstream from harmful toxins.

Eat right
The most effective way to flush toxins is to up the intake of fresh fruits and vegetables. Opt to steam rather than use oil or too many spices while cooking vegetables to keep the nutrients intact. Consume a lot of orange, yellow and red-orange foods, like oranges, capsicum and lemons, as they are rich in beta-carotene which boosts immunity. Rice also helps the body flush toxins by promoting bowel movement.

Stay well hydrated
Replenish your fluid intake and drink at least 2 litres of water daily. You can even enjoy lemon juice or green tea, which act as laxatives.

Practice hydrotherapy
Take a hot shower for five minutes while allowing the water to run down your back and alternate it with a cold water shower, for 30 seconds. This will leave you feeling refreshed. Sweating it out in a sauna can also aid waste elimination through perspiration.

Take a deep breath
The simplest form of de-stressing works wonders for the body as it allows oxygen to circulate better through your system.

Get some exercise
Exercise can boost your stamina and blood flow as well as make you sweat. Practicing activities including yoga, skipping, martial arts or doing cardio exercises for an hour a day is recommended.

Try not to exceed two drinks
An occasional glass of wine may help your heart but consuming liquor regularly harms the liver, which is the main organ responsible for detoxification. It's better to stick to water, tea
and coffee.

Celeb detox mantra

Neha Marda, Actress

I advice Lauki / Doodhi juice as it purifies your body and flushes it of toxins, also helping you lose weight. I use homemade Multani Mitti and sandalwood powder packs for my skin, as the skin generally bears the brunt of overindulgence.

Arjan Bajwa, Actor
I drink as much water as I can and start my day with a glass of carrot, beetroot and amla juice. Another good way of detox is to minimise the use of chemical products and to eat natural foods, which are rich in fibre. I take minerals and Vitamin C, which produces glutathione, a liver compound that cleanses the system. A regular workout regime five times a week, with a mix of cardio and weight training programme
also helps.
