The principal of St. Joan's Convent School has filed a complaint in the Lodhi Estate police station of south Delhi against an employee for allegedly duping the school authority of Rs 15 lakh by committing financial fraud. According to police, Indu Jain filed her complaint on July 29 against Sandhya Malik, who was working in the school as a clerk and was primarily assigned with the job of receiving tuition fee and other charges from students and issuance of bills for the money tendered.

"In their school, the above mentioned fee is submitted by the students through cheque and cash too. Sandhya Malik, who was working as cash-receiving clerk, was assigned with the responsibility of receiving fees in cash from students and issuance of proper receipts," said a police officer.

The principal in her complaint said that Sandhya Malik committed fraud as she received all the money but often did not issue proper receipts. "We came to know about her dishonesty only this year after the audit report of the school came out," Jain said in her complaint. Police said that the complainant has also conducted an investigation where it was discovered that the accused, on insistence by students, issued a bogus acknowledgment of money received on school stationery. "During the investigation, school authorities also asked students as well as parents about this fraud," added the police officer.

The principal also claimed that Sandhya Malik confessed that she had misappropriated fees received from students for personal use. "Sandhya Malik was working as a clerk for the last 21 years at the fees counter," Jain said in her complaint.

Meanwhile, on August 7, police have lodged an FIR under Sections 408 (criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant) of IPC against Sandhya Malik. "We are looking into the matter and further investigation is in progress," said a police officer.
