While the city was abuzz with voting fever, a pallor of gloom covered the palatial bungalow of MP Suresh Kalmadi.

Apart from the regular five-six watchmen that guarded the bungalow, none of Kalmdi’s supporters and party workers were seen.

His personal secretary was unwilling to connect us to Kalmadi on the intercom.

Despite his long political career, the three-time MP from the city, tainted with the CWG scam and suspended from his party, the Congress, drew no attention, neither from party workers nor from citizens.

Later, when he went to cast his vote at SNDT school on Karve Road with his family members, the routine cavalcade was missing.

After voting, Kalmadi told media persons outside the polling booth that he was not as lucky as the former chief minister Ashok Chavan, also embroiled in a high-profile scam (Adarsh housing), who was allotted a ticket “while my candidacy was turned down”.
