Sugar baron's home district will say a last goodbye to him from the same place they always saw him take off in chopper
The ground adjacent to the Baidnath sugar factory in Parli, Beed — Gopinath Munde’s Lok Sabha constituency that sent him to Parliament twice in a row — is the spot where the whole district used to receive and see him off every time he visited it. And this will also be the place where his last rites will be conducted today.

According to Ashish Navdar, a senior BJP leader who is taking care of the arrangements at the funeral site at Parli in Beed, about 8-10 lakh people are expected to attend the funeral.

“The sugar factory ground is the place from where people used to see Mundeji take off in a helicopter, and now, it will be here that his followers will see him for the last time,” Navdar said.

The spot has been used as a meeting ground by his followers. Because it is located next to the popular factory —owned by Munde himself — funeral attendees won’t have a problem finding it.

Munde’s body is expected to arrive at Latur from Mumbai around 7-7.30 am today. It will be taken to Parli at around 9 am. His body will be kept at Totla ground for the public to have a last glimpse of their leader, before it is moved to the factory ground at around 4.30 pm for cremation.

An emotional supporter of Munde said, “The ground where the funeral is being held has a special place in our lives because it is the same place Mundeji used to meet us and listen to our problems. If he was ever in Beed he used to meet us either at the bungalow or at this ground.”

A large podium has been constructed at the funeral site, and a gangway has been built so people can view him up close while paying their respects. Seating arrangement was being worked out for top leaders till late night.
