Joe Boy alias Jose Lopes, who was earlier wanted by Goa police for plotting to kill Home Minister Ravi Naik's son, Roy, has filed his candidature for the forthcoming State legislative assembly elections.

Lopes is contesting as an independent from St Cruz constituency, an area dotting the capital city of Panaji, notorious for hyper sensitive polling stations. Chimbel and Merces -- two villages in this constituency -- are already been declared as troubled spots. But Lopes does not want to associate himself with any of this trouble.

"Don't call me a history sheeter. I am a Robinhood," Lopes, who has been booked for several cases ranging from gang fights to extortion, told PTI. "If I am history sheeter then you have several ministers in the cabinet who are like me...call them also that, " he said.

Lopes is pitted against Congress minister Atanasio Monserratte, Independent candidate Rudolf Fernandes and BJP s Dinar Tarcar for the March 3 polls in this constituency.

While Monserratte has been booked in 16 cases in the past, Rudolf is also on police list due to his involvement in criminal activities in past. Lopes, who was wanted by Goa police after a criminal confessed to accepting a contract to kill Roy Naik, said that he never offered any such contract.

However, Micheal Fernandes, a dreaded criminal, who is now in the police custody for robbery, had told police that he had accepted contract to kill Roy on behest of Lopes.

"I have never met Michael. Theories floated by police about me involved in giving the contract are wrong," he said, adding that he has been acquitted by court in all cases.

"There is no case against me since 2005," he said. Lopes also claimed that he has been living a uncertain life and has survived nine murder attempts and wants to contest the elections because he is a desirable candidate. "I want to work for the people in this constituency," he added.
