Healthy on the go

Michelin-star-chef-helmed food service, 8 has recently turned waist-friendly by launching a fitness menu for foodies that makes a tempting promise but needs to solve a few quirks

Healthy on the go

The Smokey BBQ Chicken

Making a choice between eating out and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is never easy. But, what if we told you, you could have both? 8, a food delivery service located in Bandra (East) solves that problem. Designed by Michelin star chef, Alec Howard, the menu includes a variety of delicious options with nutritional value.

The Smokey BBQ Chicken was the star of all the dishes

On the downside, this service is only available to people living between Bandra and Santacruz. And while our food was mostly flavoursome, we cannot say the same about their delivery service. The first time we called them, they couldn’t deliver to us due to shortage of delivery boys, Ganesh visarjan and rains. Not very professional, we think. However, we tried again the next day, and got lucky.

Our order took about an hour to reach. Nevertheless, we were happy to find our food piping hot in chic packaging. The gravies came in sealed containers which were leak-proof.

Peanut Butter Smoothie
The smoothies and the juices were a mixed bag, with the Peanut Butter Smoothie being our favourite

We ordered for a Greek Salad (Rs 220), Thai Green Curry (Rs 375), Smoky BBQ Chicken and Olive Rice (Rs 325) and Ginger and Spring Onion Prawn Stir-Fry (Rs 650). The Greek Salad was fresh and the dressing complimented well but we think they could have added a little more feta cheese. The Chicken Thai Green Curry was flavourful and enticing. The Smokey BBQ Chicken and Olive Rice was the star. The chicken was tender and succulent with a strong yet pleasant taste of BBQ. The Olive Rice complemented the smoky chicken really well. The Ginger and Spring Onion Prawn Stir-Fry was a huge disappointment as it didn’t do much to our taste buds.

To accompany our meal we ordered a Fresh Lemongrass Iced Tea (Rs 90) that was quite refreshing, Fresh Spinach Iced Tea (Rs 90) which was as repulsive as it sounds and Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie (Rs 110), which was quite nice.

While the food tastes good and is reasonably priced, we’re not too sure about its health benefits as there is no mention of the calorie consumption or any health inputs on the packaging or the menu. This is a serious miss that the owners need to address, if they call themselves a healthy takeaway service.
