Paraskar is deliberately delaying investigation: Chief public prosecutor

More than two months after the FIR was filed against suspended Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Sunil Paraskar, there does not seem to be any breakthrough in the rape and molestation case. According to the case public prosecutor, the cop is purposely delaying the investigation.

On Thursday, during the hearing at the sessions court, Kalpana Chavan, chief public prosecutor, said, “Paraskar is not cooperating with the investigation. The chargesheet has not been filed yet, and the probe cannot move further without his medical examination. Paraskar is deliberately delaying the exam and is wasting court’s time by pushing the date.”

The presiding judge, Vrushali V Joshi, then asked Paraskar when he intended to go for his medical exam, to which he simply replied, “I will go.” The judge then ordered him to appear at Malvani police station for medical examination on Friday (today). The survivor’s sister, who was present in the court, also put forth her request for more time, saying, “We are changing our lawyer and the newly appointed lawyer needs some time to go through the details of the case.”

The judge then reminded her that the application of cancellation of bail, which was granted to Paraskar, had been filed by their previous lawyer, Chitra Salunke, and only she could pursue it. However, they can change their lawyer for the rape and molestation case, and the case was adjourned till October 9.

Paraskar is accused of molesting and raping a 26-year-old Mumbai-based model. The alleged incident took place on December 1 and December 7, 2013, and the FIR was registered on July 24. Paraskar was granted anticipatory bail on August 12. After the case was registered, the suspended DIG also came under scanner for disproportionate assets, and the report is expected to be submitted soon.

Disruption in court
During the hearing, an unidentified man appeared in court, shouting that he wanted to file an application against the accused. He claimed to be a third party in the case. The judge asked him to file an intervention application.
