Agra/Bhopal: The “provocative, yet gentle” Aamir Khan-starrer “PK” may have crossed the Rs.200 crore mark at the domestic box office, but the Rajkumar Hirani directed film is facing the increasing ire of Hindutva elements in cities like Agra and Bhopal.

Featuring Aamir as an alien, the movie that released December 19, takes a hard-hitting swipe at organised religion, god and godmen.

The organisations are protesting against the film in several parts of the country alleging that it hurts the religious sentiments of the Hindu community.

Accusing Aamir of double standards, and advising him to go to Pakistan, Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists jointly intruded into the Shree Talkies in Agra on Sunday evening to disrupt screening of “pk”.

Cinema hall management filed a complaint against protestors at the New Agra police station. SP city Sameer Saurabh said action would be taken.

Madan Sharma of the Bajrang Dal and Rajendra Garg of the VHP criticised Aamir saying that he was displaying his anti-Hindu sentiments by ridiculing Hindu gods and goddesses in the film.

Activists of Bajrang Dal and VHP entered premises of Shree Talkies, tore posters of the film and shouted anti-Aamir Khan slogans, police said.

They also threatened the manager of the theatre to stop the screening of the film, they added.

Bajrang Dal activists also attacked theatres screening the film in Ahmedabad today, while protests were held in Jammu and Bhopal.

The film, which released on December 19, takes a swipe at organised religion and godmen.

Some of the Hindu activists also staged protest Monday in front of Jyoti cinema hall in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Bajrang Dal state vice president Kamlesh Thakur said that “pk” should be immediately banned and they will submit memorandum to Madhya Pradesh government soon regarding the same.

Police superintendent (city) of Maharana Pratap Nagar, Arvind Khare told IANS: “People who were protesting in front of the hall have been stopped. They were not mishandled and no one was arrested”.

"pk" had also led to Twitter battle. Thanks to different opinions, #BoycottPK and #WeSupportPK were recently trending on the micro-blogging site.

Meanwhile, members of Hindu Yuva Vahini in Mau tore posters of the Aamir Khan movie and also stopped its screening, demanding a ban on the film.

The Vahini members today entered a theatre and tore the posters of the movie and set them on fire.

District president of Hindu Yuva Vahini Ajay Kumar threatened saying if the movie was not banned then the agitation would intensify.

Additional District Magistrate Jagdamba Singh said that no instruction on the movie has been received so far.

Reacting to the controversies surrounding Hirani's latest release, actor Boman Irani says people need to respect the viewpoint of the makers.

"People may agree and may even disagree but then they have to respect it (the concept of 'PK') because we are also respecting their view," said Boman, who has a key role in the film.

Senior BJP leader L.K. Advani, who recently watched the film that also stars Anushka Sharma, Sanjay Dutt and Sushant Singh Rajput, hailed the movie as a "wonderful and courageous film".

Actress Juhi Chawla, who had bought 30 tickets of “pk” for her family, had also tweeted: “I have some issues with PK ... I agree with a lot of things but disagree with some. Now THATS a good film. One that stirs thought and discussion”.
