MSSA U-16 girls cricket:Jemimah spins St Joseph's to title

Jemimah Rodrigues' all-round show (unbeaten 65 and 4-35) helped St Joseph's Convent High School (Bandra) register an 18-run win over defending champions Our Lady of Remedy (Kandivli) to win their maiden Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) girls U-16 inter-school cricket title at Matunga yesterday.

Electing to bat, the Bandra school put on board 95-3 in the stipulated 15 overs. Jemimah scored an unbeaten 65. Her 38-ball knock was laced with 12 boundaries.

Turning it around Bowling off-spin, the 14-year-old ensured that the opposition were restricted to scoring 78 runs in 15 overs.


In her eight overs, Jemimah scalped the wickets of Radha Yadav (45), Siddhi Satardekar (4), Pritha Desai (0) and Harshali Vatkar (0). Opener Radha Yadav was Our Lady of Remedy's top scorer with 45 runs.


Besides being a cricket player, Jemimah is also a national level hockey player. The Class IX student who is a part of the Mumbai U-19 girl's cricket team said that this tournament was a good practice for her ahead of the U-19 Zonals to be held in Guwahati.

"Last year we lost to the same team in the final. Defeating them was like a great achievement for us. The win was doubly sweet as this is our first MSSA title.

"This tournament gave me good practice ahead of the Zonals for which I will be leaving on January 31," said the Bandra resident.
