The Crime Branch Unit 11 has arrested a 25-year-old accused who always managed to give them the slip. Whenever police went to his residence to arrest him, the accused used to threaten to kill his 7-year-old daughter with a knife. The police had to go away empty-handed every time, because they felt that he may make good on his threat to kill his daughter.

The Bangur Nagar police wanted Mohsin Shaikh for an extortion case, in which he had demanded Rs 20,000 from a local shop owner.

The accused has been identified as Mohsin Shaikh, a resident of Bhagat Singh Nagar, in Goregaon. The Bangur Nagar police wanted him for an extortion case, in which Shaikh had demanded Rs 20,000 from a local shop owner. The case was registered in Bangur Nagar police station.

After the case was registered, the Bangur Nagar police made several attempts to arrest him, to no avail, as Shaikh always threatened to kill his daughter with a knife. The cops did not want the accused to harm his daughter.

When Unit 11 of the Crime Branch started the investigation, the results were the same. Finally, the police laid a trap, to nab the accused outside his house. PSI Shivaji Chikne and two constables from Unit 11 spent two days on the road outside the accused’s residence to nab Shaikh.

On Thursday afternoon, when the officers saw him roaming outside his house, they nabbed him and made him sit in the police vehicle. The police were about to celebrate their success, until the accused’s wife came running out of the house, with a gallon of kerosene, and told the cops that she would commit suicide if her husband was not left alone.

Somehow police managed to take control of the situation. The Crime Branch handed over Shaikh to the custody of the Bangur Nagar police, who will now investigate the case further.

“Whenever the police used to go (to arrest Shaikh), the accused would threaten to kill his daughter. We laid a trap and arrested him. His custody has been given to the Bangur Nagar police,” said an officer from the Crime Branch.
