It's the year of iconic movies finding new life as TV adaptations. Here’s the run down on what to expect

While television programmes being adapted into movies is not a new trend, it’s interesting to see that a lot of iconic movies are slowly making their way into television series. The challenge with making one out of a movie that is already out there, is to make it compelling enough for viewers to want to watch more, apart from re-casting existing characters. Surprising then, that most of these adaptations seem to be doing well with both, critics and audiences accepting the trend warmly. Recent reports suggest that a television reboot of the 1990 classic, Tremors is in the works and in all likelihood, Kevin Bacon might be reprising his role 25 years later. Here are movies that have been brought to life on the small screen .

Scream
The American horror movie spawned a series of sequels but after the rather tepid response to the fourth installment, the franchise was moved to the small screen. Apart from the fact that fans deservedly love the franchise since the ’90s, complete with its humor and witty scares, it also doesn’t mess around with the original screenplay. Perhaps, why the series has been doing well.

10 things I hate about you
Based on the hugely popular movie that went on to being one of Heath Ledgers classic features, this series aired a decade after the movie released. Catering mainly to the teenage crowd, the show was taken off air after some twenty episodes because it, failed to create any buzz.

Casablanca
Debatably one of the finest films of our times, the TV series of the same was nothing short of a disaster. One reboot was made in 1955 and another in 1983, both and unremarkable and forgettable and only ran for a couple of episodes each before dying a slow death.

Sin City
The sequel to Sin City was a long time in the coming, but now rather than wait for a third movie to come out, the audience might be treated to a regular television series instead. With myriad characters and plots running through the movie, this will definitely be a fun watch although no details about the same have been revealed.

Fargo
This movie’s brutally violent plot earned it several accolades. Which is why news of a television series on the same was not met with the enthusiasm that the makers were probably hoping for. However, the show has gone on to being touted as nothing less than excellent drama, clever dialogue and a perfectly self-reliant story, well in its second season now.

Fargo

Limitless
This series follows the life of Brian Finch, who discovers the power of a mysterious drug called NZT- 48. The show, based on the 2011 feature starring Bradley Cooper, has a riveting background of its own and has managed to find a solid foothold even though it borrows heavily from the movie. So much so, that it has even been referred to as its sequel.
