Maharashtra: Ajit Pawar's son Parth Pawar gets Y-plus security cover

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's son Parth Pawar, has been provided with 'Y-plus' category security cover, a top official of the Pune police said on Tuesday, reported the PTI. Parth Pawar is Ajit Pawar-led NCP's Baramati Lok Sabha seat candidate Sunetra Pawar, the wife of Ajit Pawar. Meanwhile, Sunetra Pawar filed her nomination for the Maharashtra Lok Sabha elections 2024 on Thursday. The Baramati seat has been considered the bastion of the Pawar family, with Supriya Sule winning the last three Lok Sabha elections from the seat. The Mahayuti candidate Sunetra Pawar accompanied by her husband and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar offered prayers at the Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati temple, in Pune earlier on Thursday. Before the filing of Sunetra Pawar's nomination, a campaign rally was held by the ruling 'Mahayuti' constituents - Shiv Sena led by CM Shinde, BJP and Ajit Pawar-headed NCP. Addressing the rally, CM Shinde said a change is inevitable in Baramati and gave the slogan - "Abki baar, Sunetra Pawar", according to the PTI. Parth Pawar, who unsuccessfully contested the Maval Lok Sabha seat in 2019 against the undivided Shiv Sena's sitting MP Shrirang Barne, is actively campaigning for his mother Sunetra Pawar. While talking to PTI, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said the decision about providing the Y-plus security cover was taken by the state government. A local functionary of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) said the security cover has been provided to Parth Pawar due to security concerns. "Parth Pawar is reaching out to people as part of the election campaign for his mother. He is an aggressive leader and there were concerns surrounding his security as he moves around in remote areas," he said, according to the PTI. Y-plus security cover, the fourth highest level of security, typically includes an 11-member crew with one or two commandos. Reacting to the development, Parth Pawar's cousin Rohit Pawar who belongs to the Sharad Pawar-led NCP, alleged that Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadanvis was giving a priority to providing security cover to the political leaders' children, MLAs and actors while neglecting the safety concerns of the common man who face harassment from anti-social elements, as per the PTI. Rohit Pawar also said sarcastically that two tanks should be deployed to provide security to Parth Pawar. (with PTI inputs)

Vehicles used in Viksit Bharat Yatra now being used by BJP: Sena (UBT) leader

The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve on Tuesday alleged that the vehicles used earlier by the government for the 'Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra' were now being used by the ruling BJP to run the party's campaign in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections 2024, reported the PTI. The Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra legislative council was addressing a press conference in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. "The vehicles used in spreading government schemes under 'Vikasit Bharat Yatra' are now being used by BJP for election campaign. Is this 'Chanda do, dhanda lo'?" he asked, as per the PTI. "Even the routes of these vehicles are the same as they followed during the Viksit Bharat Yatra," he claimed, according to the PTI. Ambadas Danve also targeted Maharashtra's ruling Mahayuti alliance (of BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar-led NCP) for fielding minister Sandipan Bhumre from the Aurangabad Lok Sabha seat. "Mahayuti leaders are now talking to Vinod Patil and trying to convince him not to contest elections," he said, the news agency reported on Tuesday. Vinod Patil, who wanted to contest elections as a Mahayuti candidate, was denied a ticket. He has now expressed his intentions to fight as an independent candidate. Ambadas Danve demanded that the security cover provided to 40 MLAs of the ruling Shiv Sena should be removed. "The state government has issued security to 40 MLAs who are in the Eknath Shinde-led faction. They don't need it at all. No one is going to harm them. Instead, MLAs like Sada Sarvankar, Santosh Bangar, Sanjay Gaikwad have misbehaved with people," he said, the PTI reported. Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Chandrakant Khaire and Maharashtra Minister Sandipan Bhumre on Monday filed their nomination papers from the Aurangabad seat for Lok Sabha elections 2024, reported the PTI. Former Maharashtra Minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray took part in the procession taken out by Chandrakant Khaire before filing his nomination papers. Talking to reporters at Chikathana Airport, Aaditya Thackeray said that people of the country are with the INDIA alliance formed by the opposition parties. Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena candidate Sandeepan Bhumre also filed his nomination papers during the day in the presence of MLA Sanjay Shirsat and BJP district President Shirish Boralkar, as per the PTI. Polling for the Aurangabad Lok Sabha seat will be held on May 13. (with PTI inputs)

Police held maoist with Rs 1.5 lakh bounty during Lok Sabha Elections 2024

During the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the Maharashtra Police caught a known Maoist, Dilip Motiram Pendam, 34, who had a Rs 1.5 lakh bounty on his head. Pendam was apprehended in the Bhamragad region while suspiciously wandering among villages and woodlands. Pendam is suspected of several crimes, including laying a fatal claymore mine and two pressure cooker bombs in Nelgunda-Gongwada and Laheri in March 2023. These acts were intended to attack security forces members and steal their guns and ammo, the IANS report stated.  The report added that Pendam is also accused of assisting other hardline Maoist factions in the region by organising logistics and ration supplies, as well as distributing propaganda literature to the local population. Since January 2022, the Gadchiroli police have apprehended 78 Maoists, including numerous women. They have pushed other rebels to hand over their weapons and join the national and social mainstream, the report stated.  Meanwhile, in order to increase voter turnout, police in the Naxal-affected district of Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, have launched a public awareness campaign ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. According to ANI, the campaign aims to educate locals about the importance of voting and to achieve 100% voter turnout in the area. To ensure a peaceful polling process, a large police presence has been deployed in the area. Authorities have advised individuals, particularly those in Naxal-affected areas, to use their right to vote fearlessly. Sub Inspector Govind Khating emphasised the campaign's goal, saying, "The awareness campaign strives to urge voters to do their democratic duties. "The upcoming elections on April 19 will be a victory for democracy." He also emphasised the use of a large police force to ensure secure and efficient voting. Khating expressed anxiety about Naxal threats, saying, "People fear potential blasts or attacks by Naxalites if they go to vote." To address these fears, police officers have been stationed to protect voters, particularly those affiliated with the government, thereby expediting the voting process. The community has responded positively to efforts to facilitate home voting for seniors and people with disabilities (PwDs). Khating went on to say, "We are receiving significant support from the people, who are cooperating with our initiative." Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police, Neelotpal, emphasised the importance of voting, saying, "For the past 15 days, the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been urging everyone in Gadchiroli to vote without fear." The police are constantly raising awareness about the importance of voting and urging everyone to participate. Maharashtra, with 48 Lok Sabha seats, has significant electoral power. The state will hold the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in five phases, from April 19 to May 20, with the results released on June 4.

Atishi says Arvind Kejriwal not being given proper medical care in jail

Delhi Minister and AAP leader Atishi spoke out on Monday, claiming that the recent court verdict confirms Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's insufficient medical care while in judicial custody in Tihar jail. According to Atishi, the ruling from Rouse Avenue Court suggested that Kejriwal did not receive enough medical care while in detention for the past 22 days. She emphasised the importance of establishing a medical board comprised of a professional diabetic doctor, a diabetologist, and an oncologist to monitor Kejriwal's care, the ANI report added.  "The verdict of Rouse Avenue Court proves that for the last 22 days, Arvind Kejriwal was not getting proper medical care in judicial custody in Tihar Jail," she told ANI.  According to the report, in a veiled critique of the BJP, Atishi emphasised Kejriwal's ongoing battle with severe diabetes and emphasised the significance of early medical attention. She expressed optimism that once formed, the AIIMS medical board will immediately review Kejriwal's condition and take proper action to address his health concerns. "So this makes it clear that despite having such severe diabetes for 22 days, despite his sugar level being above 300, despite his request for isolation, he was not getting proper medical care. So we hope that the medical board of AIIMS, which will have specialist diabetes doctors, will be found today itself, will check upon Arvind Kejriwal and will start the process of insulating him from today itself," Atishi was further quoted as saying in the ANI report.  Meanwhile, the Rouse Avenue Court denied Kejriwal's request for rapid insulin injections and daily video conference sessions due to his acute diabetes and changing blood sugar levels. Instead, the court instructed AIIMS to convene a medical board to assess Kejriwal's health, the ANI report further stated. Reportedly, the court's ruling states that, while Tihar Jail authorities would continue to be in charge of Kejriwal's overall medical care, the AIIMS medical board, which includes prominent endocrinologists and diabetologists, will permit specialised consultations. "Though it shall continue to be the primary duty of Tihar Jail authorities, who are stated to be fully equipped to take care of the health of the applicant, to ensure that all requisite medical treatment is provided to him in jail, however, in the event of any requirement for specialized consultation, the jail Authorities shall consult the Medical Board to be constituted by Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), comprising of a senior endocrinologist, diabetologist, as per the request made on April 20, already sent by DG Prisons," said the Court per ANI report.

Sujay Vikhe-Patil's victory is certain." Constitution can never be changed; Congress creating confusion: Om Birla

Lok Sabha Speaker and BJP candidate from Kota constituency for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Om Birla, slammed the Congress for spreading confusion within the Scheduled Castes by saying that the BJP wants to change the Constitution and curtail the rights of people. The BJP candidate assured that the Constitution can never be changed. Speaking to ANI here on Monday, Birla said, "Prime Minister Modi has clearly said that the Constitution can never be changed. No one is going to be fooled. The Congress is trying to spread false things and create confusion within the Scheduled Castes..." Replying to a query, he said, "If someone has secured and protected the rights of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Dalits, then it has been done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi." Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi said on Sunday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central government wants to change the Constitution and curtail the rights of people. "Their (BJP) leaders are saying to everyone that they should get 400 seats and they will change the Constitution. On the other hand, Narendra Modi says - We will not change the Constitution. This is a conspiracy. The Constitution gives the right to equality to women, and the right to 'jal, Jungle' for Adivasis. This is the same Constitution for which the great men of the country sacrificed themselves. They want to change the Constitution because the PM only wants power. They want to weaken the rights of the people. They want to weaken the reservations," Priyanka Gandhi said at a rally in Rajnandgaon. 'This has been his tactic to divide': Congress on PM Modi's 'mangalsutra' scare

Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "mangalsutra" remarks at Rajasthan's Banswara rally, saying this has always been his (PM Modi) tactic to divide. "This has always been his (PM Modi) tactic to divide. How to take the country forward is important. Leaving this aside, he is talking about Hindu-Muslim, Scheduled Caste, and Other Backward Caste. He is doing all this for votes, not for the benefit of the country," said Kharge. Earlier on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged that the Congress wants to take away the gold and property of people and distribute it among "those having more children." While stressing the importance of 'Mangalsutra' (traditional Indian jewellery worn by married Indian women) for women, he said that no government has the power to snatch it away." When they (Congress) were in government, they said that Muslims have the first right over India's resources. So, they will distribute this wealth (property and gold) among those having more children, among illegal immigrants...this Urban Naxal thinking won't even spare your Mangalsutra," the PM said. Congress alleged that PM Modi and the BJP have deliberately and repeatedly invoked religion, religious symbols and religious sentiments in its election campaign and the same is being done without any impunity. Meanwhile, Senior Congress leader and advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Monday said that the party in its petition to the Election Commission of India has urged to take 'appropriate action' against Prime Minister Narendra Modi 'irrespective of the status of the person' over the PM's recent speech in Rajasthan's Banswara. Singhvi said that the Prime Minister's statement was 'seriously, ridiculously objectionable'. "I have had the privilege of leading the Congress delegation involving about 17 complaints to the ECI. Most important is the first one which deals with the extremely objectionable comments of no less than the Chief Executive of this government. We respect the office he holds. He is as much as our Prime Minister as he is yours and he is BJP's. Unfortunately, the statement we have quoted is seriously, ridiculously objectionable. We pray to him (PM Modi) with folded hands to withdraw this statement and to clarify. We have asked the Election Commission to state that this is the position in law, we will do in his respect, whatever we do with others," Singhvi said while talking to reporters after the delegation of Congress met with the Election Commission of India on Monday. "I am not going to quote what he has said. He has named a community, he has talked of religion blatantly, he has talked of communal and community blatantly. He has linked it with deprivation of resources of the majority and garnering and monopolisation of that resources by that minority. He has brought in Hindu imagery of no less than the Mangalsutra, therefore clearly violated Section 123, the basic principle of not allowing excitement and information of communal passions," the senior Congress leader said. He called the speech a "very serious, uncalled-for invasion" of the Constitution's basic structure and appealed to the ECI for action. "Several circulars of the ECI on the MCC, the latest being on March 1, 2024. The constitutional ethos and spirit that make secularism a basic structure in our Consitution, makes a level playing field and democracy itself a part of the basic structure. A basic structure means that a constitutional amendment cannot violate the basic structure. This is a very serious, uncalled-for invasion and we hope and trust because the ECI is itself on trial that irrespective of the status of the person who has done this appropriate action as in any other case will and must follow shortly," Singhvi said. Kharge also said that the Congress is going to get more seats in Karnataka. "Congress is going to get more number seats in Karnataka...The people of Karnataka have changed. This time they are not going to give him any seats (BJP)," he told reporters here on Tuesday. He was reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Mangalsutra" remarks at a public rally. Modi accused the Congress of following a policy of appeasement, and yet doing nothing to uplift the social and economic condition of Muslims. He cited the enactment of a law against instant triple talaq during the term of his government as a move that helped Muslim women.
