John Wright, the former India coach, who was Martin Crowe's teammate in the 1980s and early 1990s, has said New Zealand has lost its greatest batsman. "He was certainly our greatest batsman and we are going to miss him dearly," Wright told mid-day.com from Christchurch on Thursday.
The news of 53-year-old Crowe's death due to cancer rocked the cricketing world today.

Wright is also considered one of the finest batsmen produced in Kiwiland alongwith Crowe, Glenn Turner, John Reid and Brendon McCullum, who retired recently.
"Martin got runs everywhere he played. He was a class act. That bowlers all over the world spent time discussing how to get him out is an accolade in itself," said Wright.
Wright and Crowe were part of the same team which frustrated opposition with their grit in the 1980s and that included the mighty West Indians as well. "I remember Martin getting two hundreds in the 1986-87 series against the West Indies. They were top efforts on difficult wickets," recalled Wright. Crowe also scored 188 in Georgetown Test against the West Indies in 1985. He averaged 45.33 in seven Tests against the former world beaters.
