The Bombay High Court has asked the state government to merge two compensation schemes it offers — the Manodhairya Yojana and the programme under the amended Section 357(A) of the CrPC — to ensure that rape, acid and child sexual abuse victims are given their due. It also directed that the amount be increased from Rs 5 lakh.
Since 2014, the government has been offering victims compensation under the two schemes. No compensation amount, though, has been released to date.

The petition for compensation was filed by two minor victims of sexual assault. When the bench was told of how the state had failed the minors, it asked, “Is the state so powerless [to provide compensation]?”
