Police arrested the accused identified as Kamaljit, aged around 26, and booked him under relevant provisions of the law. He was later released on bail.

Pargat Singh told reporters that he had stepped out of his vehicle to fetch groceries and had parked his vehicle in the parking lot of the market.

"I was in the Sector 9 market. When I fetched the articles from the market, I found a youth standing in the middle of the road with his car parked there. I requested him to park his vehicle on one side and give way as few others too were unable to take out their vehicles from the parking lot.

"I found that the man was in an inebriated condition and started misbehaving with me. I was very polite to him, but all of a sudden he started abusing me and became aggressive and attacked me. Later, other persons who were there intervened and the police arrived," Pargat said.
