Golaghat: Poachers took away the horn of an adult female rhino in Kaziranga National Park's Panbari reserve at Biswanath district of Assam, a senior Park official said on Sunday.

The rhino's horn was taken away yesterday after firing a bullet at its base making the animal unconscious, Divisional Forest Officer of the Park Subhashsish Das said.

The rhino is being administered medicines for its injury and it is responding to the treatment, he said, adding no bullet injury was found on the body of the animal.

Five rhinos have been killed by poachers so far this year in the World Heritage site, officials said.
