Electing to bat, Don Bosco had a golden opportunity to put on board decent total but ended up losing their openers. Medium pacer Shreyans Bogar had Pranay Barge (1) edge one to wicketkeeper Shoaib Siddique, after which Atharva Raut (1) was needlessly run out as the Matunga lads were reduced to 7-2 in 4.6 overs.
Gharat scored 51
Shreeraj Gharat then played a mature innings of 51 even as wickets kept tumbing at the other end. From a respectable 92-3 in 21.5 overs, the Bosco boys lost six wickets in quick succession, and were down to 149-9 in 51.3 overs.
They were eventually bowled out for 175 in 72.4 overs. Jaiswal accounted for the wickets of Gharat, Divyansh Saxena (41), Akshat Jain (16), Aryan Bangar (6), Hrithik Ankush (4) and Rugved Kulkarni (22). At stumps, Rizvi were 38-0 with Harsh Tripathi and Suraj Pandey on 27 and 4 not out respectively.
Jaiswal felt getting the Don Bosco openers early turned things in Rizvi's favour. "Shreyans (Bogar) got Pranay in the third over and that slowed down Don Bosco's scoring rate. Our aim was to get them out under 200 runs and I'm glad I could contribute with wickets at the right time," said 15-year-old Jaiswal.
Meanwhile, Don Bosco coach Rohan Nagwekar felt his players did not play to their potential. "Winning the toss and electing to bat provided us the perfect opportunity to execute our plan of scoring 350-plus and hold an edge of them. But we the boys didn't play as per plan and we lost quick wickets. Later, when Gharat (Shreeraj) got out, things got worse," said Nagwekar.
