However, in this superfast T20 format and tight scheduling of matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians will have to quickly get over the Wankhede disappointment and put their best foot forward for their next tie against Sunrisers Hyderabad today.
The back-to-back scheduling of matches might not leave MI with much scope to analyse their reasons for defeat, but according to their pace ace Mitchell McClenaghan, Mumbai Indians will have to be clear about their execution of plans against SRH and especially against skipper David Warner, who is in terrific form.
"We have to be clear about execution. Make sure you bowl a ball 100 per cent where you want to bowl. We look at every individual player, where their strengths and weaknesses (are) and try and formulate a plan," said McClenaghan after MI's three-wicket loss to Gujarat Lions.
McClenaghan said the role of their video analyst and bowling coach Shane Bond becomes crucial in informing the players about the strenghts and weaknesses of their opposition.
"You look around the IPL, this year in particular, every team is very, very strong. And the batsmen are world-class. We get a lot of information from DJ (video analyst) and Bondy (Shane Bond) as bowlers. We work through very diligent plans and strategies and try to use it, and put it into place," said McClenaghan, who claimed four wickets on Saturday.
No one to blame
McClenaghan didn't want to play the blame game for the loss to Gujarat. "Personally, I can pin-point four leg byes and 12 runs from my second and last over. Every single person like I said made a few mistakes and if you are going to win close games against world-class players, you can't afford to do that," he said.
