With the Supreme Court on Thursday giving the green signal to CBSE to hold the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) 2016-17 as the single common entrance test for admission to MBBS and BDS courses, candidates from Maharashtra are a worried lot.
The SC's order of re-implementation of NEET for medical admissions has led to much confusion among medical aspirants in Maharashtra, who have been preparing for the state CET (Common Entrance Test). The Maharashtra government thus plans to file a review petition in the SC requesting to exempt the state from NEET for this academic year at least.

Dr. Praveen Shingare, Director of Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) informedm “We will file review petition in the SC. Our primary request will be to exempt Maharashtra from NEET mandate for medical admissions. However, if not completely, we will press for exemption from NEET at least for this year."
He further said, "This is an examination for which students prepare for almost two years. This sudden change can pressurise students."
As the decision has come with only few days lefts for the state CET as well as All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT), which will now be NEET phase I as per the SC order; candidates and parents are furious and worried.
A tense student, said, “AIPMT is scheduled on May 1 and state CET is to be conducted on May 5. There is just a week left and there is this new decision. It is complete injustice to the candidates from Maharashtra, who have been preparing for CET, which is based on state syllabus. You can't expect us to appear for an examination now, based on different curriculum. We will fare poorly compared to our counterparts.”
"When my elder daughter was appearing for medical entrance test, there was a sudden change from state CET to NEET mandate. Now, when my son is appearing for medical entrance test, there is another change. Government must stick to one policy. These changes affect students’ career choices adversely,” said another furious parent.
