MNS chief Raj Thackeray today sought Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' resignation for favouring formation of a separate Vidarbha state.

"Fadnavis has supported separate Vidarbha and mentioned so in his Facebook post of 2013," Raj told reporters in Mumbai.

"A person who espouses the cause of splitting Maharashtra, while simultaneously being its CM, has no right to continue in that post and should quit," Raj said.

"The separate Vidarbha movement has the backing of BJP and RSS," he alleged.

Maharashtra's former Advocate General Shrihari Aney who has supported a separate state of Vidarbha, has been propped up by BJP and RSS, Raj said.

No national party has any empathy for the states, the MNS chief said.

Raj also flayed Shiv Sena, from which he split up in 2005, for "being in the ruling alliance with BJP and also acting like an opposition party at the same time."
