'Jon Snow is dead' charade was truly elaborate and not a peep escaped from anywhere; we saw Kit Harington take the lie detector test on 'The Jonathan Ross Show' and even the actors kept insisting on the fact that Jon was truly dead. But did the actors even know?

'Game Of Thrones': When Kit Harington fooled Sophie Turner about Jon Snow

It was utter mayhem as the Lord Commander of the Night Watch was revived by Melisandre in the second episode of Game of Thrones Season 6. The death and eventual non- death of Jon Snow is now what the entire world seems to be talking about. With the Lord Commander up and alive, there's a lot to happen in Episode 3 'Oathbreaker' scheduled to air on April 10th on Star World Premiere HD in India.

The 'Jon Snow is dead' charade was truly elaborate and not a peep escaped from anywhere; we saw Kit Harington take the lie detector test on 'The Jonathan Ross Show' and even the actors kept insisting on the fact that Jon Snow was truly dead. But did the actors even know?

Kit Harrington recently revealed what it took to be the sole bearer of such a huge secret. He apologized to his fans and soothed some ruffled feathers but there came another shocking revelation when he stated that even the cast wasn't initially in on the whole hush-hush masquerade.

The show makers David Benioff and Dan Weiss had told Kit Harington he was going to eventually be revived just two weeks after the cast received the season 5 scripts in the summer of 2014. However, the producers made him swear to stay mum. So, for an entire year Kit Harington went around bemoaning his imminent departure from the show.

His acting skills were put through a serious trial by fire when he had to pretend he was leaving the show after the 5th season and the entire cast was kept in the dark about it.

In a performance worthy of an Oscar, Kit Harrington managed to convince Sophie Turner of his exit from the show and even received a sob worthy letter from her. "Sophie Turner, bless her, wrote me a really long letter about how much she loved working with me – and I still got it," Kit Harington remarked "That made me chuckle."

However, not everyone was so gullible. Ser Davos, actor Liam Cunningham, for example, "told me to f— off from the start," Harington rues.

It didn't just end here. The show makers were channeling their inner James Bonds, as an attempt to keep the cast in the dark; Jon Snow was even given a code name. His name was never used in any scripts during the filming of season six. As an ode to the sleuths of yonder they also used the acronym LC (for Lord Commander) whenever they had to refer to Jon Snow. Talk about absolute paranoia!

Although it was all fun and games at the start, the star also remarked that it did take a toll on him to play smokes and mirrors with his near and dear ones on the show. "At first I thought I would find it fun," Harington explained about being sworn to secrecy. "This will be a fun game. But I had to lie to a lot of close friends and cast members and crew. The longer it went, the more I felt like I was betraying them. So I did end up letting people in, slowly."

It seems like the makers of the show weren't exaggerating when they said that this season is going to be the biggest. If the first two episodes are anything to go by, the show seems to be living up to its billing.
