Avtar Hothi (65), a farmer from Kamloops, British Columbia, used his turban to oull out the teen who had fallen into North Thompson River close to his farm.

“We were trying to look around for branches, and he just took off his turban right away, threw it in the water and pulled her to shore,” Avtar’s son Paul said.

Sikh men consider it improper to show their hair in public, but he stated that those rules do not apply if it is a case of life and death.
