The JJ Marg police have sent a letter to major public hospitals in the city, along with Kadir’s photograph, asking hospital authorities to inform them if his body is present in any of the mortuaries. They are also looking at city hospitals to ascertain if he has admitted himself for medical treatment.

The letter states that Khan, who had dumped his son’s body between Byculla and Sandhurst Road railway stations, is suspected to be suicidal due to a mental disorder. It also mentions that the police should be notified of any unidentified body that might have arrived after July 6 evening which matched Khan’s description.

On the run
On July 5, Kadir Amir Khan (40), a resident of Beed, Maharashtra, arrived in the city with wife Samina, five daughters and two-year-old son, Kaif, to celebrate Eid. The family was staying at a relative’s house in Nagpada. On Tuesday morning, Kadir told his family that he was taking Kaif to the market for shopping. When they did not return home for over 14 hours, Samina lodged a complaint with the JJ Marg police station. A few hours later, Samina received a chilling phone call from a local booth in south Mumbai from Kadir. He told her that he had killed their son and abandoned his body near the Byculla railway station. Khan has been absconding since then.

Anil Madvi, senior inspector of JJ Marg police station, said, “As part of the investigations, we have written letters to hospitals in the city, but Khan is yet to be traced.” Another police official said, “One team is in Kalyan to gather more information from Khan’s relatives, and another is in Beed.”
