In the first of a series of foodie tributes to comic book characters, fans of the hooded superhero had a unique Sunday brunch
A Juhu five-star has tied up with DC Comics and Cartoon Network in a bid to give conventional brunches in the city a new twist. Dubbed the Cartoon Brunch food festival, here, the dishes are curated, prepared, and designed by associating with the comic book timeline and creating food that your superhero would dig, and then incorporating those dishes/drinks on the menu.

Every fortnight, the Sunday brunch menu at The Courtyard is dedicated to a particular superhero from the TV channel or the DC Comics fraternity. When we visited their first brunch last Sunday, themed the Batman Brunch, it was a mix of families coming to enjoy a healthy and sumptuous brunch along with their little ones, as well as comic aficionados and 1990s cartoon lovers who visited the hotel to relive their childhood.
With a spread of over 100 dishes, which included Batman's favourite Mulligatawny Soup as well as Batman's potion — a chocolate and mint based shot offered to everyone that helps them "survive" just like how Batman does on numerous occasions, the restaurant seemed vibrant and active on an overcast Sunday afternoon.

Even the cocktails and mocktails, created specially by the restaurant manager Gaurav Bhatte, were in keeping with the restaurant's superhero theme. Joker's Paradise, a 7-Up based mocktail is the perfect cure for those recovering from a heavy night of drinking, whereas the Bruce Wayne, a cocktail made from coffee and whisky, wasn't for the faint-hearted. Even Boy Wonder, a drink made from tequila, sparkling wine, and orange juice, left a pleasant after-taste on the palate.
"The Cartoon Brunch festival takes us back to our childhood, when '90s cartoons were a part of our daily lives," said Bhatte. "It's a kid-friendly environment, but for people like us who grew up watching such shows and reading comic books it's also a chance to walk down memory lane." Their list will include Superman, Ben 10, Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo, Courage the cowardly dog, The Flintstones, as well as JK Rowling's Harry Potter.
"The ambience had the effervescence of Gotham," said 26-year-old Rahul Laud, a fellow-bruncher. "It seemed like a great place for kids to have consistent weekly fun and also the one-off chill spot for that hangover brunch, while reminiscing bits of Batman as well as the previous night."
