BMC officials blame 'callous' hospital for newborn baby's death

Some BMC officials have blamed the callous attittude of a Bandra hopital for the death of a newborn baby. In a BMC committee meeting held on Thursday, the officers claimed that the infant had died because Bhabha hospital in Bandra had refused admission to a pregnant woman. The hospital though has refuted the allegation.

The officials claimed that the pregnant wife had been transported to the hospital in a auto-rickshaw on Tuesday for a check up. But they claimed that the hospital refused to treat the woman. She later  went into labour. They alleged that the child died due to no treatment.

Hospital authorities though refect these allegation as false. Dr Pradeep Jadhav, medical superintendent of the hospital said that the pregnant woman was given proper treatment and the bady died on the way to the hospital.

Talking to mid-day, he said, "The lady was 34 months pregnant when she was brought to the hospital. She was given proper treatment but as she was not in labour pain and her due date was one month later, she was sent home. But later after reaching home, she started having labour pain."

"On the way to the hospital, she delivered in an auto and the bady died due to the traffic. Hospital is not responsible for it," he added.

Now, after the issue was raised in the BMC meeting, an enquiry is initiated in the case.
