Mumbai: Constable flees with cash recovered from criminals

Cops escape with valuable from police station recovered from robbers. A police constable attached with Kurar police station in Malad has escaped with cash worth 18 lakhs which was recovered by the cops since 2001. The constable was given responsibility as cashier who collects and keeps record of all the valuables and ash recovered in all the cases.

After not coming to police station and missing since month of May, the Kurar police have registered case against police constable Ramzan Tadvi, 45. Police inspector Shriman Shinde filed case against Tadvi on Thursday.

According to police officials Tadvi was earlier posted at Borivli police station and in last year he was transferred to Kurar police station. In kurar police station he was given the responsibility to take care of all the valuables recovered by the cops in all the cases and maintain record of the same.

Tadvi resided in Jogeshwari east at Poonam Nagar, police quarters. The police officials said that since 2001 to 2016 from over 51 cases, the Kurar police had recovered 18 lakhs cash. Tadvi allegedly took all the cash and is missing since May 5 this year.

The cops initially did not doubt Tadvi, but after he did not report to police station they got suspicious. The cops went to Tadvi's house several times but he was never found there.

Recently Kurar police were ordered by the court to return cash of 32 thousand to victim who was robbed last year. When the cops opened the shelf they found the cash corner completely empty. The cops called Tadvi several times but his phone remained switched off throughout.

Senior police inspector L T Vhanmane of Kurar police station said, "We waited a lot to get in touch with Tadvi. Tadvi and cash both are missing; we have no clue about him. Now we have filed case against Tadvi and searching for him. We have registered case under section 409 of IPC. The constable is missing since May after EID."
