Mumbai: Magic of Harry Potter comes alive again!

The magic of Harry Potter came alive again yesterday, as thousands of fans queued up outside stores across the world to pick up their copy of the wizard’s latest adventures in ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’. Coming nearly a decade after the last book, it was only fitting that Potterheads received this gift on what was the birthday of both — Harry and his creator JK Rowling.

Here in Mumbai, the Pottermania was at an all-time high through the week, with various events taking place across the city in tribute to the world’s favourite wizard. Even the lashing rains didn’t deter the die-hard fans who queued outside Crossword at Kemps Corner as early as 8 am, three whole hours before the doors were scheduled to open. Their enthusiasm set one thing straight: Pottermania is just as strong as ever.

All things HP
Apart from wall hangings and posters of the book, the bookstore had also organised a Harry Potter quiz, as well as a cosplay competition for the fans. For all those who believe the Potter series is a fantasy tale for kids, the crowd at the bookshop would have proved them wrong, as both kids and the young-at-heart joined in the festivities.

For the first hour after the gates opened, readers focused their attention on procuring a copy of the book at the soonest. Once they got their hands on it, several of them posed for pictures at the Hogwarts selfie wall. Others had their priorities straight, and took off to the isolated corners to begin reading immediately. At the café upstairs, fans guzzled butterbeer and sampled the specially curated Harry Potter menu. Meanwhile, a three-member band — bearing an uncanny resemblance to the Weird Sisters, a hugely popular band in the HP universe — started playing on stage. Later, the same stage was converted to a platform for the quiz, where the know-it-alls were rewarded with goodies and chocolate straight out of the Honeydukes cellar.
