Quality award for BDL Museum
Even as the neighbouring landmark, Rani Baug is mired in controversy over the inclusion of Humboldt penguins inside the zoo, the Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum was in the news for all the right reasons.

The city’s oldest museum was conferred with the International Quality Award in the Gold Category that will be awarded at the International BID Quality Convention in London on November 20.

This award is being given as a result of research and analyses carried out by a process of consultation in which BID’s Honorary Members, Quality Ambassadors and Quality Hunters, participate, along with BID’s panel of experts who do a rigourous assessment of the organisation. Customer satisfaction, leadership, technology, best practice and business results are some of the benchmarks that are looked into before the honour is conferred.

Being awarded to companies and professionals from 179 companies and professionals since 1979, the idea is to hail those spaces that act as catalysts for the community. It’s the first time that BID has expanded to include cultural organisations, and Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum was selected in this first round. The museum joins a select band of India awardees that include Reliance Industries, TATA, Indian Oil Corporation and Arcelor Mittal.

Stairway to success

While Kangana Ranaut kept her eyes on the stairs, her security kept a watch for anyone getting close, even if it was Dr Uday Salunkhe, principal of a Matunga-based management institute where the actress had arrived for an event on Wednesday.

South Island diaries with Sir Richard Hadlee
His all-rounder skills on the cricket field were the stuff of legend. Indians will always remember Sir Richard Hadlee for his outstanding sporting achievements and for being one of the finest ambassadors of the game. This diarist was lucky to interact with the icon and recalls his down-to-earth demeanour despite his popularity and celebrity status.

Now, the Kiwi legend is back in the city, as an ambassador to promote tourism in his scenic country. In an exclusive chat about his home town, South Island, he shared, “India is an emerging market for New Zealand tourism and by having these events here in India we can raise awareness of New Zealand as a destination and its experiences, particularly the South Island.

It is home for me. and is a stunning part of the world with its beautiful landscapes, mountains, lakes and glaciers as well as friendly and welcoming locals,” he added. We’re bowled over by this different pitch.

Fact? fiction?
Today, veteran journalist, Swati Chaturvedi, took to Twitter to announce her debut novel, Daddy’s Girl. Her tweet was about her book, available for pre-order, copies of which got sold out in three hours.

Among those who will be picking up a copy are Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi and prominent senior journalists. The blurb reads: ‘What could be worse than a daughter's death?’ Ask the Nalwas, whose nuclear family imploded one night as they became India’s no.1 story.’

She hasn’t mentioned if the book is fiction or not; however, the plot sounds suspiciously similar to the Talwar case. And it is a crime story. We can’t wait to get our hands on what is being called ‘a shocking conclusion to the country’s most scandalous murder’.

Spot the 30
Who doesn’t like a touch of nostalgia and a slice of history? The next time you are at the Taj Mahal Palace at Colaba, look for staffers who sport badges with the number 30 on them.

This special lot of people have been associated with the property for 30 years and they will be happy to indulge you with stories and trivia from the decades gone by. If you are booked into a room at the hotel, you may find a note encouraging you to speak to these veterans to learn more about the landmark.

While the iconic hotel is in sync with new trends by revamping certain old sections, it is the pride it takes in its legacy that strikes the right chord with many Mumbaikars, yours truly included.

Wi-fi, sorry?
While customers at city bookstores noisily speak on their phones while browsing, a bunch of bookstore owners in London are on a mission to restore the sanctity of a bookstore.

They seek to ban wi-fi or any technology that might dilute the reading idea in its pure form. So, from requesting customers to answer calls outside the premises to being wi-fi-free, they are going all out to restore the sanctity of the space. Now, that’s what we call going by the book!
