Bengal won on virtue of their first innings lead after the boys from Mumbai could not achieve the near-impossible task of reaching their 305-run target in 22 overs.
Mumbai scored 193 for six. Suryakumar Yadav scored 72 in 36 balls with eight sixes and two fours while skipper Aditya Tare contributed 33 off 25 balls. Speaking to mid-day from Alur, Tare said, “some catches were dropped and a few umpiring decisions went against us, but it’s part of the game, so no excuses! Overall, it was a good game.”
Batting first after winning the toss, Bengal scored 427 with the help of fine centuries from Abhimanyu Easwaran (119) and skipper Manoj Tiwary (126).
In reply, Mumbai’s India under-19 batsman Armaan Jaffer’s 86 and Tare’s 68 helped Mumbai reach 357. Bengal scored 235 in the second innings.
Good bench strength
“We hardly play a four-day tournament prior to Ranji Trophy matches, so it was a very good pre-season tournament. The opposition teams were very good. This was a good opportunity to test our bench strength and we tried out these young cricketers in different situations against good opponents and they performed really well,” Tare added.
Bengal will clash with KSCA team for the title on August 15.
