Rain, rain go away

Yesterday’s sudden showers ruined Bollywood’s fashionista’s — Genelia D’Souza, Daisy Shah and Malaika Arora Khan — outing for a SoBo store launch.

Toast to the Dost
There was a time when a new magazine issue meant taking rounds of your frequented news stands to check if it had hit the stands or, asking the paperwallah why he has not put the magazine into the door slot. Times though have changed, and today, magazine issues are ‘launched’.

This afternoon will see the launch of Mumbai’s Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) community magazine, Bombay Dost, at the Press Club. The magazinehad at least one issue a year, and we hear actor Manoj Bajpayee will also be present at this issue’s launch. He is on the cover for playing a gay professor in Aligarh. Talking about changing times, it’s good to see the Hindi film industry turning a corner when it comes to LGBT portrayals with mature and realistic plots and characters.

The last salute on the Deccan Queen
After serving the Indian Railways for over 38 years, Vidhyadhar Waghmare retired as a Loco Pilot (Mail) yesterday. His friends and colleagues joined him on his farewell ride on the Deccan Queen for one last time on the Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai route.

Along the journey, fellow engine drivers made special horn salutes (meant only for retiring staff) to acknowledge Waghmare’s contribution. Last morning, after the train entered CST, colleagues threw a farewell bash, as is the tradition.

Comma, comic
One of the most used elements of English grammar, it gives our sentences a whole new meaning.

We love graphic artist Ashok Hinge’s take on commas, now on display at Dinodia 1x1 Art Gallery. And if you still haven’t figured the personality he’s paid tribute to through this comma on the left, well, it’s the original funny man, Charlie Chaplin.

A song just for Rahman sir
She proved her talent with her soul-stirring vocals in the sensual Ang Laga De from Goliyon Ki Raasleela — Ram Leela (2013). Now, the petite Aditi Paul, who began her musical journey with the first season of Indian Idol, and has toured with AR Rahman since then has turned music composer. Two days ago, she released her debut single, Ghir Ghir Ke, on YouTube.

We liked the Indo-Western fusion in the track, where Paul’s Hindustani vocals are speckled with sounds of clarinets and bass guitars, making us relive the magic of the monsoon.

“I released the song on August 25 because two years back, on this day, I was jamming with Rahman sir, where he played the piano and I sang some ragas. He told me that I should compose as well. That was my biggest inspiration; the song is dedicated to him,” she says modestly.
