If you are on the road that is home to old favourite Hawaiian Shack in the Pali Hill neighbourhood, look out for a tiny eatery called Cool Story that’s right across the street.

The plain white walls with a splash of sea green and blue to break the monotony soothe the eye and stay true to the unique concept of serving all things cool. There are books, wooden tables, warm lighting and foldable chairs that slow down and ease the mind as soon as we step in. A lone attendant takes our order, shares valuable suggestions and then goes ahead to prep the order in the kitchen. On a muggy Saturday afternoon, we are the only visitors.

The appealing menu features Frocktails, Frattes, Gelatos and Fratte Overload.

We start with the Frozen Peach Green Tea ('139). While the drink is light and refreshing, topped with a generous helping of peaches, we miss the flavour of the tea.

Our companion opts for a Frocktail. These are frozen mocktails made with real fruit pulp that, we were told, is imported from Malaysia, and topped with herbs and condiments. They can be served either semi-frozen or frozen. Our pick is the Green Goblet ('159). The semi-frozen drink featured lemonade, kiwi, cucumber and fresh mint. Given the city’s weather, we will be coming back for this one.

For coffee lovers, the café also serves Frattes, creamy frozen lattes made with vanilla milk and topped with add-ons. To add a dash of savoury to the proceedings, we order a combination of Lavash and the toasted garlic hummus ('90) to nibble on. The lavash was regular though we loved the flavourful, garlic-y hummus.

The Fratte Overload, a five layered hand crafted dessert does require quite a lot of space in the tummy. It consists of layers of Fratte, gelato and whipped cream frosting with a crunchy base. While there are options featuring strawberry cheesecake and gooey chocolate, we plumbed for the Coffee Caramel ('295).

A jar loaded with layers of chocolate-coated butterscotch nuts, Dolce Latte gelato, Classic Coffee Fratte, whipped cream frosting and an expresso soaked cake toast, arrived at our table. While each layer feels like a short, heady trip to heaven, the bottom layer of the cake and the caramel Dolce Latte gelato are particularly divine.

Here’s a stopover that’s highly recommended to up the mood at any point in the day.
