The city — sliced, diced and served with a dash of sauce

Mumbai Diary: Tuesday Dossier

Who’s that girl?
Yes, we can’t seem to get enough of our Olympic silver medallist.

This photo posted on social media by PV Sindhu shows her dressed in a flowy white number, a different avatar from the busy player that we are used to seeing on a badminton court when she decimates opponents. You go girl!

We did start the laughter

Shilpa Shetty and choreographer Geeta Kapoor found something to crack up over at an event in Goregaon last evening.

Air bourne with Lou Majaw
Last weekend, the audience at Vashi CIDCO Exhibition Centre got to witness more than just Lou Majaw’s music as the renowned Shillong-based musician, in his trademark shorts, bared his bod too, while paying homage to Bob Dylan.

Besides Majaw, the day-long cultural fest celebrating North East featured a variety of artistes from the region, including Manipuri artiste Guru Rewben Mashangva, Assamese Folk singer Dolly Das, contemporary bands like Omak Komut Collective and The Vinyl Records. The guests were also enthralled by traditional Folk dances and delectable fare from the region.

Docs do the sing thing
As the Pune season gets into full drive, the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) is pulling out all stops to keep the crowds coming, especially on the weekends.

On September 3, Pune’s Turf Club Ball Room is all set to host a group of singing doctors from Mumbai, in a programme called The Tuning Folks.

Those who have their fingers burnt at the betting windows may need some singing salvation to heal the wounds of their wallets. For these docs, all specialists, singing is the best medicine.

Desi bass in the desert
Desi bass music producer Su Real alias Suhrid Manchanda demonstrated a snippet of his new album Twerkistan through the release of the title track as a music video.

The song also features Delhi-based vocalist Tanya Nambiar on vocals. The video, directed by Satyarth Shaurya Singh, is set in the desert and tells the story of the Sultan of Twerkistan. “From the word go, I wanted an anthemic title track for Twerkistan, and an epic video (see below) to accompany it.

The song evoked imagery of the desert, dunes and dust in my mind as the lyrics tell the story of the Sultan of Twerkistan, exiled from his sovereignty, on an epic quest to reclaim his throne,” says Su Real, who will start his pre-album tour in October. He will also accompany Nucleya on a pan-India tour when the latter launches his second album Raja Baja in September.

Look who's hit the soul road on a Sunday
As we wade through mucky potholes and unprecedented traffic, sometimes even a frame like the one we’ve reproduced here, of Mandira Bedi, can surely calm the senses.

She’s in Ladakh and posted this peaceful, trippy frame of her seated smack in the middle of a road, surrounded by the rugged beauty of Ladakh. She posted: ‘Sitting chillin with my cup of coffee.

That’s what last Sunday was in Ladakh. That’s what Sundays should be.’ We think so too.
