Los Angeles: Taylor Swift gave a miss to the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards for a jury duty in Nashville, but the singer was dismissed as a potential juror in an aggravated rape and kidnapping case.

The reason for the 26-year-old songstress dismissal is her own sexual abuse case, reported People magazine.

Swift had filed a counter suit against David Mueller, a radio host who allegedly groped her during a meet-and-greet in 2013. Mueller had filed a suit against her claiming he was fired by his job and banned from the star's concerts based on false allegations he groped Swift before her concert at the Pepsi Center in June 2013.

According to a courthouse witness, Swift "was part of the panel of prospective jurors on a case with charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated rape and aggravated domestic assault. Therefore, the judge excused Ms Swift because of her pending sexual assault cause against Mr Mueller."

The "Bad Blood" hitmaker surprised everyone when she casually showed up at Music City's criminal courthouse.

Wearing a black shirt and minimal makeup, she mingled with fellow potential jurors who later happily shared on their social media pages pictures and video of them with the
songbird.

Because of her own ongoing legal case, Swift wasn't allowed to join the jury panel. But she reportedly told the judge she would be more than willing to serve on a jury in any other type of case.
