This is back when the official shooting of Befikre hadn’t commenced, and we hadn’t had our official first day. We actually arrived in Paris a few days earlier, just to settle in. It was the weekend and Paris was hosting its annual colour run which is basically, mostly young people, but all kinds of people, running through the city and playing France’s version of Holi. It sounded very exciting and Adi sir decided that he wanted a montage shot in the colour run — if it’s happening we may as well make the most of it and get a shot in there.

So Vaani and I were going to give our first shot earlier than scheduled, so we arrived at the colour run, wearing shorts and T-shirts. It was a nice bright sunny day and it was amazing to witness the carnival atmosphere where everybody was in a great mood. We got to a spot by the Seine were they were throwing colour, it was literally like Holi and Adi sir briefed us he that he just wanted us to be like two friends who had gone for the colour run just to have a good time. ‘Just go into the sea of people and just have fun,’ he said. This was officially our first shot.
Once we got into the shot, Vaani was completely immersed in the moment, she was actually having more fun and had more energy than me, which is not normal. I usually have more energy than any of my co-actors but she had more energy than me, she was fully in the moment, and it was actually difficult for me to keep up with her and catch up with everything that she was doing.
She reminds me a lot of me in the sense that as a newcomer she has lot of nervous energy which is understandable, but she knows how to channel that nervous energy into the performance. She is completely fearless and completely unselfconscious. She took me completely by surprise which is something I think she will do for the audience as well — she is going to take everybody by surprise.
